Practice Exams

  • GMETRIX
    • Accessing GMETRIX Resources
You will need to register yourself as a candidate at http://www.gmetrix.net/Login.aspx, and enter your GMetrix access code.
    • What's Available
The GMETRIX learning resources are available for Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) and Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) courses only.

The access code is specific to the particular course you have registered for. By logging in to the e-learning site you will then have access to interactive resources to help you learn and understand the subject. The resources includes practice tests and electronic copies of the Microsoft Official Courseware books.

You should attempt the tests in both training and testing mode and it is recommended that you make full use of all of the available question pools. Keep attempting the tests until you are confident of your knowledge. I recommend that you do NOT just keep doing the practice tests as you may end up just remembering the particular questions and answers, I suggest that you use the tests to identify what areas you need to work on and as a guide to tailor your study. The test are useful if you use them effectively and not just frequently to the point of over-familiarisation.

The course is designed to be self-paced so that you can study when it suits you. However, in order to keep track of progress we are limiting the availability of each course to a few months - this should be ample time to complete the material. If, for whatever reason, you do not manage to complete the material in the time and wish to continue with the course, you just need to re-register for the IT-Academy course to obtain a new access code.

  • MeasureUp
MeasureUp practice tests are excellent tools for preparing for one of these exams. They provide a test environment similar to the real exam and provide good explanations for the answers. You can use these tests in either Study, Certification, Custom, or Adaptive modes.

You should first attempt the tests in study, custom or adaptive modes but in your final preparation for the exam, use the certification mode.

The Department of Computer Science has subscribed to obtain a limited number of practice tests from MeasureUp. If you feel you would benefit from these practice tests (you feel you are nearly ready to sit the exam) then please contact me - there is no charge, but we have limited numbers.

  • Re-sits
Finally, whilst you remain a member of this University you may attempt to resit the exam according to the exams retake policy - see the Exams section for more details. If you have already a broad understanding of the subject, or if you just want to give it a go, you can sit the exam. In most cases I would even suggest you attempt the exam before starting the course - it will give you an idea of the level of knowledge required, the environment for the exam, and you may even pass!

There is no charge for re-sitting the Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) or the Microsoft Office Specialist exams (MOS). However, each Microsoft Professional exam will cost you (or your sponsor) for each attempt.
